Mis-Drilled Bowling Balls

One of the problems with getting balls drilled incorrectly is that the average person buying their first ball doesn’t really know the difference. Take this one for example. The bridge between the two fingers at top is “massively” too wide. The thumb hole is randomly drilled below the fingers - clearly not measured to fit anyone’s hand - whoever drilled this ball simply punched 3 holes in the sphere and said, “here you go”. It looks painful - imagine spreading your two front fingers that wide apart and then try to roll the ball. No question, you will experience serious hand pain. This ball was brought to us at Southland with the customer complaining that their hand hurt and they weren’t sure if the ball was fitted correctly to them. Wow, imagine that! This type of mis-drill is the result of someone purchasing the ball at a discount retail store and the salesperson punching 3 holes in it without any kind of idea of forward, reverse, side finger pitches or hole depth.

In a basic conventional grip bowling ball drill using the Brunswick Customatic Grip System is only part of the step toward a comfortable fit for the first time ball purchase. The other is having an experienced ball driller - someone trained on the equipment to drill anything from basic to complex ball layouts. This is a must when selling bowling balls to customers and maximizing their comfort and fit of the bowling ball.
